Сюжет — Прошло 300 лет после Великой войны. Доктор Идо находит верхнюю часть девушки-киборга. Когда девушка приходит в себя, то обнаруживает, что ничего не помнит (даже свое имя). Вскоре она понимает, что владеет специальной техникой боевых приемов киборгов. Теперь героине нужно разобраться в своем предназначении, а для этого нужно попытаться вспомнить хоть что-нибудь из своей прошлой жизни…
Критики отнеслись к фильму достаточно неоднозначно.
«Для такого фильма сюжет достаточно сильный. Конечно, какой-то глубины вы тут не увидите. Вы точно не будете долго размышлять над происходящим, на это тут просто нет времени. Да и не требуется это. Линия сюжета так же кристально чиста, как слеза, которую в одной из сцен разрубает на 2 части главная героиня. Но удивить зрителя пару раз все же удастся. Следить за историей интересно в первую очередь из-за постепенного раскрытия персонажей и плавной смены. «
Несколько фактов о фильме:
Фильм основан на манге «Gunnm» Юкито Кисиро (1990-1995). В США манга была издана под названием «Боевой ангел Алита» («Battle Angel Alita»).
Продюсер Джеймс Кэмерон и режиссёр Роберт Родригес рассматривали на главную роль четырёх актрис — Зендею, Розу Салазар, Майку Монро и Беллу Торн. В конце концов на роль утвердили Салазар.
